deathdealer by burninginkworks deathdealer by burninginkworks
deathdealer pyrography on 12"x17"x1.5" hardwood

It's actually burned on wood using a soldering iron as you can see the grains & some crack on the wood this took me 3 weeks to burn this piece. It's quite heavy though

based from the art of Frank Frazetta

A group I'm in just asked a poll question - "What most influenced you..." and I said "Death Dealer" by Frank Franzetta, then I see your DD, and then this in your gallery....how weird is that. Marvelous rendition!!! :D

Your work is stunning. There's a great balance between detail and subtle shading. I was looking at getting a dedicated woodburning pen but now that I've seen what can be done with just a soldering iron I'm reconsidering whether it's necessary.

A soldering irons temp can be turned down as to not over burn the wood. They have wood burning pens like that but they are like $200! Im thinking about trying a soldering iron too...

I didn't know you could adjust the temperature on soldering irons. I just did a couple wood burning pieces with a cheap tool from when I was little. I could grip it closer to the tip than a soldering iron but it wasn't quite hot enough.

Depends on the soldering iron you get. I have a digital one. So i can make it ultra low or extremely hot. this is the one I have [link] but mines old was my dads. But you can get adjustable temp ones for around $20 even. Im thinking about buying a cheap one to test it on fpr trail and error..Dont want to break a spendy one.

yeah!!! it's like tattooing on wood but no ink used on this one the color comes from the wood itself depending on the temp & pressure of the burn that's how I control the shadings and tone

here's a youtube video of the process:

It's like handling like a pen & brush you control the burn by pressure & temperature.... just keep on practicing you can develop your own style.
